Mediums are instruments of “great power in the universe”

There is always a specially warm welcome for mediums from Silver Birch when they visit Hannen Swaffer’s home circle. The guide greeted them as “those who are moved by the power of the spirit, in its several ways, to perform the tasks so necessary in your troubled world today.”

One medium had come from South Africa and the other two from America. Silver Birch said:

“You stand as the living emblems of the reality of spiritual truths. You provide the irrefutable demonstration that the power of the spirit did not exist only thousands of years ago but is a force that can reveal itself in wondrous measure, and in many forms, giving proof that it emanates from a world beyond the one in which you live.

“Rejoice at the fact that each one of you has become an instrument of the greatest power in the universe. As you offer it attunement, and allow it to manifest, you are able to help the many unfortunate ones who are brought to you, so that new life, new health, new vigour, new hope may be given to them.

“Just as each one of you, touched by the power of the spirit, has had your own soul quickened into activity, so you become the means by which this same essential process is performed in others who are deaf, dumb and blind to all spiritual realities.

“Remember that the work on which you are engaged is hallowed by the power of which you are the recipients, that great trust is reposed in you and the responsibility that accompanies the descent of what in other days was called the Holy Ghost.”

Now it was the turn of the materialisation medium from South Africa, who also does healing with his wife’s help:

“You have the great joy of realising that you perform a unique service and enable many to see a demonstration of spiritual reality.

“It is one phase of mediumship that is incontestable to those who demand proof that can be cognised by the five senses.

“To be able to meet them on their own level and provide this proof is a great work and you should be proud of being the instruments.

“This is quite apart from the healing, which is beneficial, necessary and is directed to the same goal as are all aspects of mediumship, touching the souls of those come within your ken and making them realise that they are not bodies but spiritual beings expressing themselves through bodies for a spiritual purpose here and hereafter.

“All the promises made to you have been fulfilled. You are among those who can look back and see how what I call the finger of the spirit has pointed the way to go. When it seemed as if difficulties were looming up and could be insoluble, then at the last moment they seemed to evaporate and the way was made clear for you.

“You have plenty of work to do; just go and do it. All that we ask is willing service, cooperation, not blind trust, to fulfil what is a divine mission.”
