Aging of spirit guides.

I had a guide portrait sketched a while ago,not for me personally but because of the very strong resemblance to my father,I queried it.
Zandorf did the sketch and kindly offered it to me.
Since then,I have received a name for the guide.
From another friend,I received the information that this guide goes way back in my family.
Now he often comes into my dreams,looking each time a different age.
He only comes into dreams whenever I need help.
Why the different age?
Is he showing me how he looked at different stages in his life or for some other reason?

Think I have one of the 'silent' type.
Very rarely do I hear him speak.
Only once did I hear his voice to give me his name.
I was given his name first by a friend,then it was confirmed by the guide himself.
As I said,he only appears when I need advice or aid in something troubling me.
